Baby Mania
I don't know about you, but seeing all these pregnant ladies has got babies on my mind ALL THE TIME. And instead of filling our very small closet with all the adorable baby accessories that are available for moms today with the thought that someday we could use them, I have decided to be the giver of the most fabulous baby shower gifts. And seeing the abundance of procreators among us, I'm guessing that most of you will have plenty of gifts to buy as well. Here is the way to stand out as a wonderful gift-giver and outstage even the grandmas, without breaking the bank.

These burping cloths from ohsewcutedesigns look adorable, even covered in spit up I'm sure. $18 shipped.

Shipped for $22.75, this nursing cover will provide the expectant mom modesty while nursing the baby. Handmade by madejustforme in 100% cotton, the pink floral design allows moms to nurse in style.

This diaper tote from bethysak can allow the new mom to still carry her trendy pre-baby purse and keep diapers and wipes safely tucked away in a stylish tote that she's not ashamed to carry around. $12.80 shipped.

DIY: Compost Bin
There are many ways to help the environment without breaking your bank account. Purchasing organic foods, "green" products, compost bins, etc. can be really expensive. But, there are a lot of do-it-yourself things that can be extremely cheap if cost anything at all.
I don't know anyone that composts, but it sounded like a fun project for us. I know it's not "luxurious" sounded, but it is for the environment and your garden :) Compost bins, depending on what you want, the size, etc., can be over $100. No thanks! You can create the exact same kind of system with a VERY little amount of work and about $10, give or take. We began by looking for an online tutorial and ended up going off of of this article on wiwkihow.com: How to Make Your Own Worm Compost System.
Things you'll need:
Worm Bin: We purchased a rubber bin from WalMart, $6 or so. The size really depends on how much waste you'll be throwing in there, so just estimate. You only need about a foot, or less of depth.
Bedding: Shredding cardboard, shredded paper, peat moss, "worm bedding", and/or a little dirt. We used shredded newspaper, and threw a little dirt on top.
Worms: The kind to use are Red Worms, they are used for fishing! You can buy them online, bait stores, or anywhere you can find fishing worms. We got ours at WalMart, super cheap.
How to Build, Condensed Version
1. Depending on what type of bin you are using, you may need to drill holes in it for ventilation. About 10-15 holes per side should be good (top and bottom, too!). Remember the bottom of the bin needs to get air so if you set it on a couple bricks so it's off the ground, that's perfect.
2. Fill the bin with whatever bedding you've chosen. Ex., fill it with the shredded newspaper and sprinkle some dirt on top. Moisten the bedding with water and allow for it to soak for a day.
3. Add your worms! We started with 100, and hope they start multiplying. A few articles online recommended a pound of worms per half a pound of food.
4. Start adding your kitchen waste. There's a lot of Do's and Dont's when it comes to what you can put in your bin. Here's a good list.
Some Tips
1. Keep your bin out of direct sunlight, especially when it's hot out. If it's really cold, try to insulate it or put it indoors.
2. There are many ways to harvest the compost to use in your garden. There are more than a couple good ways of doing this here.
Online Reading Materials
There's some books you can buy on worm composting (vermiculture), but here's some good articles I've found online. Check them out to find out more details on
1. Composting 101
2. WikiHow
3. Vermicomposting: Composting with Worms
4. Vermicomposting Info.
5. Worm Composting from Fine Gardening
6. Uncle Jim's Worm Farm

Write it out
I love writing and receiving letters. It brightens my day to get the mail and find something besides bills (those few stubborn ones who refuse to stop paper billing) and unwanted catalogs. I used to think that personalized stationery was something that only rich people had because surely getting your name printed on paper rivals the cost of wedding invitations, right?
Wrong.

$9.75 shipped. From OnePunkPosy these cards can be personalized with whatever you want. Stick your name on there and you are a star.

$5.50 shipped. From greenapplepaperie these adorable notecards are sure to brighten anyone's day.

$18.50 shipped. From pixelimpress these notecards are so irresistibly summery and sweet. The envelopes take the cuteness up about fifty notches.

$23 shipped (for twelve!). From annacote these adorable notecards have a little bird that slays me. Add berries to that and I'm sold.
This is just a small sample. I think personalized stationery goes a long way into making a good impression. If that is not luxury, I don't know what is!

Seating Hacks
I love to look at Ikea Hacker for some ideas for this site because, well, Ikea is soo cheap!! The newest post is about chair "hacks." I love the computer chair covers (one of mine is in desperate need of some new fabric/cushioning)! And the toilet seat..wow! What's awesome is that, most of the time, the hackers tell you exactly how they did their modifications and they're done cheaply!

So take a look at that post, has anyone done any hacks like those?
